Jackson County-Wide Trash/Tire Cleanup Day, April 15, 2023
WHAT: Jackson County-Wide Trash/Tire Cleanup Day (Rain or Shine)
WHEN: Saturday April 15, 2023
8:00am to 3:00pm
WHERE: County Fairgrounds on Rt. 62 near Cottageville
**Residents are encouraged to take advantage of this event, as participation will determine if future events are held. The cost to hold this one-day cleanup normally exceeds $13 thousand (not including the significant amount of volunteer time or for the donated equipment and labor from local businesses like Francis Brothers Excavating), so donations the day of the event will be gladly accepted. The Event is being held by the Jackson County Solid Waste Authority, with support from the Jackson County Commission and grant funds from the WVDEP/ Rehabilitation Environmental Action Plan.**
Items accepted include:
• Broken or discarded appliances, (B & G Heating and Cooling has volunteered to be on site that day to remove freon from your old AC’s, Refrigerators, etc.)
• All types of junk, refuse, metal and generally all sorts of trash and unwanted items. Goodwill will be on site to accept Items suitable for reuse.
• Recyclable Items – cardboard, aluminum, plastics bottles, plastic containers (1-7), plastic bags, & paper
• TIRES (not larger than truck tires) - The WVDEP will be overseeing the tire collection effort. A WV Driver’s License is required and tires must not be on rims and a 10 TIRE LIMIT/household is strictly enforced. This tire collection is NOT for businesses.
Items Not being accepted for this event include: Junk Cars; Yard Waste; Free liquids, Paint, Gasoline, Flammable or Hazardous Materials; Fluorescent lamps; Explosives, ammunition, Radioactive Materials; Medical Waste; and the like.
The drop site at the Fairgrounds will be set up in stations for the various discarded items including one station for Goodwill items, another tires, another for recycling, another for trash, another for steel and appliances, in that specific order. It is requested that items be pre-organized/sorted (the best you can) to accommodate easy drop off at each of the stations, so the flow of traffic is not interrupted or slowed.
Let us all do our part to make Jackson County trash and litter free by cleaning up our properties and bringing those unwanted items to the County Fairgrounds on Saturday April 15. If you do not have a complete load of trash of your own, and you know there is trash in your area that needs disposed of properly (along the roadside, in the creek, etc.) be a Good Samaritan and bring those items in as well!
