RIPLEY, W.Va. (WV News) — One of the most anticipated events of the year is almost here.

On Oct. 20, the Community Foundation of Jackson County’s annual benefit dinner will take place at the National Guard Armory in Millwood.

Featured speaker will be Terry Bradshaw, legendary quarterback of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The four-time Super Bowl champ, two time most valuable player and inductee to the Pro Football Hall of Fame will be speaking to a sold-out crowd.

Misty Hamon, executive director of the foundation, said the attendees can expect an entertaining speaker in Bradshaw.

“He is well-known for his wit and personality,” she said.

Bradshaw, who is the only National Football League player to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, is also a long-time broadcaster for Fox and Fox NFL Sunday. In addition, he is an author, singer and breeder of championship quarter horses.

Bradshaw is set to the take the stage at 7:30 p.m.

He will be highlight of the evening which is designed to showcase the community foundation and its grant and scholarship opportunities.

This year, those seeking funds took part in the Community Connect Program. Non-profit organizations were given a three-day grant-writing seminar. The attending groups were then encouraged to apply for the fall round of grants awarded by the foundation.

“Our intent was to help hone grant writing skills,” Hamon said. “We know we are not able to fund everyone’s need, so our hope is they can take this training and apply for other grant opportunities beyond the foundation.”

Fourteen grants were submitted. Recipients will be announced at the benefit dinner, along with those who earned special incentives.

As part of the evening, the Jackson County Children’s Choir will be entertaining the audience at 5:30 pm. prior to the meal which is being catered by The Fairplain Yacht Club.

Hamon said there are very few tickets available.

“We have two sponsorship tables left,” she said. “Other than that, we encourage people to go to our website to order. It should be up to date on how many places are left. We cannot guarantee any tickets will be available at the door.”

Doors open at 5 p.m. for the general public. The VIP room, which is only available for sponsors of the event, will be open from 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m.
