Ravenswood High School Celebrates Students' Successes

Luke Swiney

Dear Community,

If you haven't noticed, Ravenswood High School has had a lot to celebrate lately. Both our boys and girls basketball teams making it to the WVSSAC State Basketball Tournament is a big deal. I'm very proud of our student athletes and coaches for the relentless work they put into earning these spots and giving themselves the opportunity of a lifetime.

Furthermore, we should all be very proud of our student body as a whole. These kids put on their gear, showed up to the state tournament and supported their classmates. The amount of pride they took in both teams was really something to see. I have received nothing but compliments about the way our student section handled themselves during and after the games.

Lastly, I want you all to know that we as a school recognize the power of this community. We have had so many parents show up when they were needed most. Thanks to the parents, we pulled off two of the best pep rallies we have ever had. "Let's Glow Ravenswood!" We had parents show up and decorate the school for both teams, but the most valuable thing they gave to us was their time. Thank you.

I don't want to fail to mention the successes of our other organizations as well. Namely, our robotics team who qualified for the World Tournament in Dallas, TX. Our wrestling team qualified SIX individuals for the state tournament, with a 3rd place finisher. We have archers who qualified for the state archery tournament, and I think it's safe to say that we will have some archers qualify for the national archery tournament. Our Rave Revue is traveling to various competitions, our band is earning high ranks, FFA continues to be nationally recognized and our brand new eSports team is already showing signs of success in just its first year of existence as they are currently ranked #1 in the state!

As the principal of this great school, I want to thank each of you. I want to thank the parents and the community for rallying around this school and these kids to make this time in their lives as special as possible. Lasting memories have been made, memories that our students may share with their future children, who will hopefully walk through the halls of this very school.

Thank you,

Luke Swiney
