Seniors at the Ravenswood Senior Center thanked Mayor Josh Miller (seated) and the rest of the Ravenswood City Council for the financial support.
RAVENSWOOD, W.Va. (WV News) — The Ravenswood Senior Center hosted an Open House on Tuesday, Oct. 4 to share with the community the improvements and upgrades made to the center due to some funding from both the Ravenswood City Council and the Jackson County Commission.
Senior center pool director Suzanne Templin said the funds were used for updates to the locker room showers, plumbing drains with temperature controls as well as two new air conditioning and heating units.
“These improvements have made the overall experience so much more enjoyable,” Templin said enthusiastically. “Taking a shower, you now feel like you’re at the Hilton or something.”
Templin said the upgrades have enhanced the facility and it is now more operable.
“Our heaters and air conditioners were 25 years old so we knew we would eventually have to repair them,” she said. “This money made it so much easier to deal with the issue by allowing us to purchase new units.”
Without the financial assistance of these grants, Templin said it would have taken years to fundraise the amount invested. She feels it is a huge weight off her mind. The funds were provided by the American Rescue Plan Act.
“We are so appreciative of the council and the commission,” Templin added. “We couldn’t be more excited.”
